Well, the practice of good work and good workplaces is central to notions of wellness and sustainability at work. Unfortunately, the stresses of our contemporary workplaces are considerable and act to disable some of our most prized values and principles over time.
Young employees especially, graduate with the hope of finding workplaces where they will be able to work according to their values. Such workplaces are often difficult to find, so one of the goals of the Circle is to make visible the many ways workplaces practice good work as well as gather a series of workplace exemplars that may be of interest.
Even for those of us who have been in the workforce for a few years, a growing lack of time and energy prevents us from being able to easily find and access resources and practices to support what good work does exist in our own work environments. To this end, the Circle, as a community of practice asks members to contribute something to its base on an ongoing basis while trying to limit a substantial time commitment. A little bit, often is the ideal here to keep the community up to date. This way, a perpetual source of ideas and links can be accessed anywhere, at anytime by any of the community members.
Finally, as a Circle, the community hopes to sustain reflective practice at work — for practitioners this might mean access to a diverse set of resources updated by scholars of good work; for scholars, this might mean real world challenges and opportunities for good work and good workplaces as well as the constant quest for creative and innovative ways of improving practice.
